两性色午夜 Holds Fall Commencement Ceremonies on Dec. 14 and 15

The 两性色午夜 University alumni family grew by nearly 3,000 new graduates as the university held its Fall Commencement ceremonies. For the Kent Campus, Commencement ceremonies took place Friday, Dec. 14, and Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center (MAC Center).

Across the university鈥檚 eight-campus system, 2,891 students graduated from 两性色午夜 this fall, including those receiving associate degrees. 

两性色午夜 conferred 2,158 degrees:

  • 1,667 bachelor鈥檚 degrees
  • 430 master鈥檚 degrees
  • 55 doctoral degrees
  • 6 educational specialist degrees 

Friday, Dec. 14, at 6 p.m.

两性色午夜 University alumna Barbara Kloha Andreas is the Commencement speaker for the advanced degree ceremony at her alma mater on Dec. 14.

The 6 p.m. ceremony on Friday, Dec. 14, recognized graduates receiving their master鈥檚, educational specialist and doctoral degrees. The keynote speaker for this ceremony was 两性色午夜 alumna and Professor Emeritus Barbara Kloha Andreas, Ph.D. Dr. Andreas earned her bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees from 两性色午夜. She began her academic career at the Eastern Campus of Cuyahoga Community College, where she was head (chair) of the Division of Health and Natural Sciences. She joined the faculty at 两性色午夜 in 2002, earned the Outstanding Teaching Award in 2008 and retired as Professor Emeritus in 2010.  

Dr. Andreas dedicated her professional life to the preservation of natural lands with a research focus on the distribution of mosses and is credited with naming three new moss species to science. She was on the board of the Ohio chapter of the Nature Conservancy for 22 years, and during her service, she received numerous awards including the President鈥檚 Stewardship Award. She has served on the Ohio governor鈥檚 Natural Areas Council, and she is currently on the board of the Ohio Natural Areas and Preserves Association and the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Rare Plant Council. Dr. Andreas was the recipient of the 2003 Portage County (Ohio) Environmental Award for Academic Education. Dr. Andreas has published four books and 27 technical reports and peer-reviewed journal articles. She is a Fellow of the Ohio Academy of Science and is co-founder of the Ohio Moss and Lichen Association. 

Saturday, Dec. 15, at 9:30 a.m.

两性色午夜 University alumnus Madhavan 鈥淢.R.鈥 Rangaswami is the Commencement speaker for the morning ceremony on Dec. 15 at his alma mater.

The 9:30 a.m. ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15, recognized graduates receiving baccalaureate degrees from the College of Aeronautics and Engineering; College of Business Administration; College of Communication and Information; and College of Education, Health and Human Services. The speaker for this ceremony was 两性色午夜 alumnus Madhavan 鈥淢.R.鈥 Rangaswami, co-founder and managing director of Sand Hill Group. He received his Master of Business Administration from 两性色午夜 in 1978. Recognized as a software business expert, he participated in the rapid expansion of the Silicon Valley software industry during his tenure as an executive at both large and small software companies. In 1997, he co-founded Sand Hill Group, one of the earliest angel investment firms, and was profiled on the front page of the Wall Street Journal. He was named to the Forbes Midas List of investors. Mr. Rangaswami is the publisher of SandHill.com, a leading website for entrepreneurs and venture capitalists. He is the recipient of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) Influential Leaders award in 2015 and the U.S.-China Educational Trust (USCET) inaugural Asians in America Award in 2016.

In 2007, Mr. Rangaswami founded the Corporate Eco Forum (CEF), with a mission to accelerate sustainable business innovation by creating the best neutral space for senior business leaders to strategize and exchange best-practice insights. Members represent more than 20 industries and have combined revenues exceeding $3 trillion. Additionally, he founded the nonprofit Indiaspora to unite the Indian Diaspora and to transform the success of Indian Americans into meaningful impact in India and on the global stage. 

Saturday, Dec. 15, at 1:30 p.m.

两性色午夜 University alumnus Daniel L. Brockett is the Commencement speaker for the afternoon ceremony on Dec. 15 at his alma mater.

The 1:30 p.m. ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15, recognized graduates receiving baccalaureate degrees from the College of Architecture and Environmental Design; College of the Arts; College of Arts and Sciences; College of Nursing and College of Public Health. The speaker for this ceremony was 两性色午夜 alumnus Daniel L. Brockett, partner and chair of Quinn Emanuel鈥檚 Financial Institution Litigation practice. Mr. Brockett earned his Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from 两性色午夜 in 1979. He later went on to earn his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Pittsburgh. 

Mr. Brockett has recovered billions for major institutional clients in federal securities, antitrust and other suits against major Wall Street banks and other defendants. He is particularly known for his work in the plaintiff antitrust, securities and commodities space, and he was recently chosen by judges as co-lead counsel in an array of precedent-setting cases, including the credit default swaps antitrust case, the gold antitrust and commodity manipulation case, the ISDAfix interest rate benchmark case and the U.S. Treasuries antitrust litigation. His work has won him extensive media attention, and he has been interviewed by and featured on a variety of national news shows and in legal media publications, including CNBC, Reuters, Bloomberg, Risk Magazine and the American Lawyer. He was recently ranked by Benchmark Litigation as one of the Top 100 Trial Lawyers in America for 2018.
