Bob Dylan鈥檚 Pastel Portraits to Be Shown at 两性色午夜

Photo of Bob DylanLegendary musician Bob Dylan will have some of his visual arts output exhibited at 两性色午夜 University鈥檚 Downtown Gallery. 鈥淔ace Value,鈥 a collection of 12 large portraits drawn in pastel, will run Jan. 21-March 5 at the university鈥檚 Downtown Gallery, located at 141 E. Main St. in Kent, Ohio. There will be an opening reception on Jan. 21 from 5-7 p.m. Both the exhibit and reception are free and open to the public.

Dylan, whose contributions to American music since the early 1960s need no introduction, also has been active in the visual arts for much of his career, a commitment that has intensified in the last decade with exhibitions at London鈥檚 Halcyon Gallery, the National Gallery of Denmark and Palazzo Reale in Milan. Dylan created 鈥淔ace Value鈥 for the National Portrait Gallery in London, where the series debuted in 2013.

鈥淭hese portraits, like Dylan鈥檚 songs, are very much like a presentation of a series of poems,鈥 said Anderson Turner, 两性色午夜 School of Art鈥檚 director of galleries. 鈥淓ach face you encounter not only tells a story, but also reflects the artistic intensity that has carried Dylan throughout his career.鈥

Turner believes Dylan鈥檚 drawings avoid the trap of the celebrity dilettante and are easily recommended on their own terms.

鈥淭his exhibit of Bob Dylan鈥檚 drawings is a way for us to engage with an artist who crosses generations and to get to know him a little bit more,鈥 he said. 鈥淔ortunately, his drawings are worthy of investigation.鈥

Gallery hours are Monday-Wednesday, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m.; Thursday 9:30 a.m.-8 p.m.; Friday 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; and Sunday noon-5 p.m.
