What is Visual Communication Design (VCD)?

Visual communication design is a creative process that combines the visual arts and technology to communicate ideas. The visual communication field is focused on communicating with clients and customers through any visual means available. This means students will learn graphic design, illustration, animation, photography, and even the modification of photographs to better illustrate a given point.

These skills are considered broad and comprehensive, and prepares graduates to enter a number of exciting fields within the communications industry. Available career paths include graphic design, professional photography or retouching, illustration and professional animation, advertising, website design, and visual marketing departments.

How does Graphic Design differ from VCD?

Graphic design is a highly specialized field under the umbrella of visual communication design that is limited to the design and development of key graphics for insertion into digital and print media, websites, mobile apps, advertising campaigns, and more.

Graphic designers may create logos and illustrations for print or digital platforms, coordinate layouts, and choose colors and typography.
