Women’s STEM Events Are Appetizers for Knowledge-Hungry Students on Geauga Campus
Nearly 150 area high school students with an insatiable hunger for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics enjoyed a banquet of ‘small bites’ during two Women in STEM Day events hosted this fall by Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University Geauga and the Twinsburg Academic Center. Learn more.
Robin Selinger elected to APS Board of Directors
Physics Professor Robin Selinger, Ph.D., a member of the Advanced Materials and Liquid Crystal Institute was elected to the American Physical Society Board of Directors. Her three-year term begins Jan. 1, 2020.
APS is a nonprofit membership organization working to advance and diffuse the knowledge of physics through its research journals, scientific meetings, and education, outreach, advocacy, and international activities. APS has over 55,000 members, including physicists in academia, national laboratories, and industry in the United States and throughout the world. She was elected a Fellow of the APS in 2016.
Employee Resource Groups Adopt Families This Holiday Season
Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University’s Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) offered educational and emotional support, and raised funds to help spread holiday cheer to area families this holiday season.
The Kent Young Professionals, the Latino Networking Caucus and Spectrum partnered with the Well Community Development Corporation (CDC) to collect more than $250. The CDC forms partnerships that create affordable housing and economic initiatives, while reinvesting in individuals and neighborhoods in the Akron area.
The Pan African Faculty and Staff Association teamed with the Salvation Army in Ravenna to raise some $1,500 dollars for toys, clothing and other gifts for a local family of eight.
For its part, the Women of Color Collective (WOCC) held an informational self-care session to educate attendees on seasonal depression and offered strategies to implement self-care and find local mental health resources. WOCC fosters the professional development, mental wellness, networking and personal growth of women-identifying faculty and staff of color at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹.

Compliance and Risk Management offers classroom and online training in areas such as Environmental Health and Safety, Fire Safety and Lab Safety. Customized training is also available for departments upon request.
Environmental Health and Safety also provides technical support, consultation and safety audits of facilities, including a focus on:
- Technical support, consultation, investigation and audits of facilities
- Ergonomic Assessments
- Promoting health and safety awareness
- Meeting compliance requirements
- Re-establishing health and safety responsibilities
- Preventing or reducing work related injury-causing incidents
- Eliminating occupational hazards and unsafe conditions
Instruction is provided in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration guidelines by an OSHA General Industry certified instructor.
