CPM Associate Professor Dr. Scott Spencer Appointed President of the Board of Directors for the American College of Podiatric Medicine
Dr. Scott Spencer, associate professor in the Division of Surgery and Biomechanics, and an alumnus of the former Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine class of 1987, has been named the new president of the board of directors for the American College of Podiatric Medicine (ACPM).
Founded in the late 1940s as the American College of Foot Orthopedists, ACPM enhances and advocates for the practice of podiatric medicine by providing innovative education and promoting podiatric physicians in public health and welfare. With a membership of approximately 1,000 doctors and 450 student doctors, ACPM is the only specialty organization affiliated with the American Podiatric Medical Association, and represents the full scope of medical, orthopedic and biomechanical aspects of podiatric practice.
Dr. Spencer is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Medicine and is a fellow of the American College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Spencer also currently serves as the interim director of Clinic Operations for CPM’s teaching facility at the Cleveland Foot & Ankle Clinic.
Psychological Sciences Seeks New and Expectant Black Mothers for Research
The Program for Research on Anxiety Disorders in African Americans invites new and expectant African American mothers to participate in a research study. A workshop will be held at the Maple Valley Branch Library in Akron on March 30, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. that provides moms with useful skills to manage their stress and anxiety.
There will be free food and childcare if needed. Those eligible to participate can earn a $40 Walmart gift card.
The Program for Research on Anxiety Disorders among African Americans (PRADAA) is a research lab in the Department of Psychological Sciences at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University. PRADAA is under the direction of national award-winning Psychologist Angela Neal-Barnett, Ph.D., and is committed to conducting and disseminating research in meaningful ways for African American communities.

Self-care often gets pushed to the back burner. It might be that you feel selfish taking time for yourself when you could be doing things for others. Or, you might struggle to find the time to make self-care a priority. But particularly in today's wireless world, where we are constantly responding to others, making time for self-care is a key component to managing stress and remaining resilient.
Our presenter for this Employee Wellness offering will be Alan Gecht, MA, LPCC. Alan is an account manager for IMPACT Solutions, Employee Assistance Program. Whether training or working with a client in a clinical setting, Alan’s goal is to provide practical, solution-focused strategies for life’s issues that virtually anyone can apply with success.

Gratitude 28-Day Challenge April 6 – May 3
It's easy to take things for granted, especially when so much of our time is spent pursuing things we don't currently have. You can cultivate more gratitude through regular practice.
During this 28-day challenge, you will be asked to practice gratitude daily. Let this challenge be your guide. Then use this foundation to make gratitude a lifelong habit. You and the people around you have a lot to be grateful for.
As a challenge participant, you will receive educational materials, weekly emails from your Be Well partner, and access to unlimited telephonic health coaching. You will report your weekly progress using your Be Well portal at portal.bewelldata.com.
Each week, participants will also be eligible for our random prize drawings as an added nudge to keep you motivated and support your wellness goals. Winners will be announced throughout the challenge and advised on how to collect prizes.
Finally, participation in the 28-Day Gratitude Challenge may also qualify you for 20 Wellness Your Way points toward Tier 2 reward. Note that individuals must participate in all four weeks of this challenge to qualify for their wellness points.
