Ceramic Artist Anna Calluori Holcombe will visit the 两性色午夜 University School of Art on Thursday, Dec. 6, and Friday, Dec. 7The event is presented by the School of Art, the Ceramics Club and the Michener Lecture Series. Holcombe will visit the Ceramics Studio on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Friday, Dec. 7, at noon, Holcombe will present a free public lecture in Room 202 of the Art Building, 325 Terrace Dr., in Kent. Holcombe鈥檚 Dec. 6 visit to the Ceramics Studio will include a lecture on her research on European and Chinese porcelain. She will also share some demonstrations in the studio.
On Dec. 7, during her public lecture, Holcombe will speak about her development as an artist.
Holcombe is the director of the School of Art and Art History at the University of Florida. She has previously taught at Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, State University of New York at Brockport and Kansas State University. She received a B.A. from Montclair State University and an M.F.A. in ceramics from Louisiana State University. She has lectured and held residencies internationally.
Holcombe writes in her artist statement, 鈥淢y intention in this work is to capture the arcane, obscure qualities of everyday, mundane objects.鈥 Her work uses different shapes and formats, including the tondo (round relief), and porcelain slipcast vessels and boxes. Holcombe uses specialized ceramic techniques for her work, including tarpaper, to create more stable walls and boxes.
