Dear Alumni and Friends,
In University College, we embrace our students for who they are, then push them to become so much more. To keep an open mind and venture out of their comfort zone. To find their voice and the strength to use it with purpose. To become a better version of themselves and to create a future that they never imagined possible.
We help students achieve academic success by advising undecided students on degree and career planning; helping students make the transition from high school to college and from college to career; providing tutoring services that promote student learning; and supporting low-income, first-generation students.
We are so grateful for your philanthropic support of our critical programs that help students explore, engage and succeed...with purpose. Please join us as we work to ensure every student’s success.
Sincerely,
Dr. Liz Piatt
Interim Dean of University College
Helping students thrive, not just survive.
In order to prepare students for the 21st century with the knowledge, skills and dispositions to be leaders in the workplace as well as engaged citizens, University College is focusing on these key priorities:
- Academic - Creating Graduates – Programs that provide students, particularly those most in need (financially or academically) with the tools to be successful, remain on track towards graduation, and launch their career. Most importantly, supporting students when they have small unexpected financial hardships can make the difference between a student earning a degree or not.
- Career - Creating Workforce - We encourage the self-discovery process with academic advising regarding major exploration options, liberal education requirements and overviews of Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ major requirements. By immersing students in experiences early and often, we are exposing them to new ways of looking at their career options in an ever-changing environment and positioning students to be confident and purposeful with their academic choices and career decisions.
- Community - Creating Citizens – Organized service projects bring the learning out of the classroom while making a tangible impact. These experiences not only build skills but also prepare students to become citizens who contribute meaningfully to their communities. Alternative Breaks expose students to social justice and cultural issues through direct service, community engagement and cultural activities during semester breaks.
- Diversity - Creating Equity - Supporting first-generation and high financial need students through creating experiences that allow our students to thrive, not just survive. Research opportunities, internships, and study abroad experiences, along with support that removes barriers to graduation, strengthen a student's collegiate journey and build a support network.
