Wick Poetry Center Uses the Power of Poetry to Share Experiences During the Pandemic

Born from inside 两性色午夜 University鈥檚 Wick Poetry Center, 鈥淒ear Vaccine鈥 gives citizens a chance to process the pandemic through poetry.

The poetry center collaborated with the University of Arizona to expand on poet Naomi Shihab Nye鈥檚 poem 鈥淒ear Vaccine.鈥 The poem became a catalyst for respondents around the world to share their own poems.

recently featured Nye and the work of 鈥淒ear Vaccine.鈥 The poems cover respondents鈥 thoughts about the COVID-19 vaccine and how the pandemic has affected their lives.

鈥淚 thought of it instantly as, 鈥榯his will be a chorus of community voices welcoming the next phase,鈥欌 Nye told PBS NewsHour. 鈥淚 think everybody was wistful and lonely for many voices mixed together at that point.鈥

The book titled 鈥淒ear Vaccine: Global Voices Speak to the Pandemic'' received over 2,300 submissions from people of all ages and locations. Respondents ranged from high school students at 两性色午夜 to women in Saudi Arabia to 两性色午夜 University President Todd Diacon.

Printed by 两性色午夜 University Press, the book is set to release this month in honor of National Poetry Month with receptions held at 两性色午夜 to celebrate.
