Letting Your Fridge Shop for Groceries

Pitch competition provides students with experiences of life in global business

Kitchens are made for pairings. Wine and cheese. Sweet and savory. Groceries and technology?

Graduate student Sara Gallimore and her husband Nick recently won an award for iHungry, a smart fridge and mobile app pairing that works to catalog your food and revolutionize the weekly grocery shopping experience.

The idea won second place at the Idea Pitch competition hosted by 两性色午夜 University鈥檚 Ambassador Crawford College of Business and Entrepreneurship. The event is one of the many ways the college helps students experience the fast-paced world of entrepreneurship to prepare them for today鈥檚 business environment.

Sara Gallimore, originally from Brazil, graduated from 两性色午夜 with a fashion merchandising degree in 2023 and is currently enrolled in 两性色午夜鈥檚 Master of Business Administration program. The couple currently work together at Gallimore Software, founded by Nick in September 2022.

Their winning technology concept reflects their past and present selves, Nick Gallimore explained.

鈥淢y dad was a sous chef in Aspen, Colorado,鈥 he said. 鈥淗e is also a carpenter, so he made all kinds of crazy stuff and unique designs with wood and food. I just do that, but with computers.鈥

The iHungry app is designed to scan the item's barcode and add the food to your refrigerator鈥檚 profile. iHungry allows each member of a household to create their own profiles, which will then use AI to cater recipes to each user.

鈥淪o, for instance, if I like Mexican food, it will give me more recommendations based on Mexican food,鈥 Sara said.

Along with that, iHungry has the ability to notify, order and automate grocery shopping.

鈥淚f I'm running out of something, I can connect with my Amazon account, for example, and it will order the food for me or send me a message,鈥 Sara Gallimore said. 鈥淚 can then track what I'm running out of, and then just put it on my Walmart list. It鈥檚 making the process much easier for me. It just connects all the pieces.鈥
