Welcome to Summer Advantage 2024

What is Summer Advantage?

Empowering dreams, igniting futures: Summer Advantage is your  gateway to academic excellence by helping you remain on track toward graduation and prepare for a future career by building a support network of peers and professional staff. The experience includes academic support as well as professional and personal development.

Program Benefits Include

  • Tuition assistance for up to 3 credits toward your summer course. 
  • Students with a demonstrated need can request assistance with books, course supplies, and housing.
  • Workshops and individual opportunities to support academic, professional, and personal goals.
  • Peer support for academic, financial, and sense of belonging connections.

Program Requirements Include

  • Complete the Summer Advantage application no later than Friday, April 5th.
  • Complete the 2024/25 FAFSA and submit your Summer Enrollment Plan information on Flashline.
  • The program will provide course assistance for up to 3-credit hours.  The course selection must be verified by the student’s advisor and meet graduation requirements.
  • Select and attend 4 engagement activities throughout the summer.
  • Attend Summer Advantage orientation prior to the start of the summer course.

Summer Advantage Info-Sessions

Join Student Success Programs as we discuss the Summer Advantage Program with partners from One-Stop, University Advising, and Success Coaching.

  • Overview of Summer Advantage ProgramEnsure students know program offerings and information. Assist students in completing the Summer Advantage program application.
  • Financial Planning â€“ A representative from One Stop will be present to answer questions about the 24-25 FAFSA, summer billing, etc. Support students in completing the 24-25 FAFSA and Summer Enrollment forms. We will also help students develop a financial plan if they choose to take multiple summer courses. 
  • Advising Support – A representative from University Advising will be present to answer general advising questions and ensure that students understand the importance of meeting with their advisor BEFORE registering for their summer course.  This is to confirm that their course aligns with their degree completion plan and their ability to succeed in the course.

What are the dates of the program?

The program will take place during all summer sessions. Students will participate in a program orientation prior to the first summer session. Students will participate in 4 engagement activities throughout the summer as part of the program.

  • Orientation: Saturday, April 20th, 2024, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
  • 3 Week: May 20 – June 9
  • 8 Week: May 20 – July 14
  • 1st 5 Week: May 28 – June 20
  • 2nd 5 Week: July 1 – August 4
Who can apply?

Students who need assistance remaining on track towards graduation have been identified and contacted via email about the program. If you have questions about whether you qualify, contact the SSP office by phone at 330-672-9292, or email ssp@kent.edu

Is there a cost to participate in Summer Advantage?

No! Students will receive tuition assistance for up to 3 credit hours and additional financial assistance will be available for students with a demonstrated need for assistance with books, course supplies, technology, and housing.

How will students know what course to take in the summer?

The student’s academic advisor will review the student’s degree completion plan and identify the summer course(s) that meet the student’s graduation requirements.

Can I participate online?

Yes, students can participate in Summer Advantage as an online student. 

What is the time commitment?

Students must attend their summer course and complete 4 engagement activities during their summer. 

What is the application process?

Completed applications will be reviewed by SSP staff and required summer courses will be verified by the student’s academic advisor.
