Program Overview

Liberation Learners is a FREE program for college-bound rising juniors and seniors who aspire to make a difference in their communities and the world.

Priority is given to first-generation, low-income students — with only 15 spots available!

Our Program

Centered around giving promising underserved high school seniors from Northeast Ohio an opportunity to participate in a three-week humanities seminar and a school-year college support and civic engagement program. Through the seminar, students will read transformative texts focused on the relationship between freedom and responsibility.

The Liberation Learners program includes three essential components:

Three-Week Summer Seminar

Students live on campus while participating in a literature and political philosophy seminar focused on issues of equality and justice. Students are expected to commit fully to the summer program while on campus and return home each weekend.

College Application Support

Each student who completes the summer seminar will receive a college letter of recommendation from their professor and assistance with college applications and planning for the future.

Civic Engagement Project

After the summer seminar, students will meet regularly in small groups from September through May to work on a civic engagement project of their choice. Projects will be about civic matters that are important to each group and will explore ways to make a difference.
