Research Writing Retreat for Graduate Students

The Graduate College is committed to doing whatever it takes to help you succeed. In doing so, we鈥檙e excited to offer Research Writing Retreats for Graduate Students during the academic year. Our program has been developed to help provide you with a quiet space so you can remain focused on your writing as well as network with other colleagues. Plus, we will be providing you all of your meals in one place, including breakfast, lunch, snacks, and plenty of coffee and tea to fuel your progress! 

Interested in joining us?

One day of retreat is $20 and two days is $30. 

Research Writing Retreat will give students:

  • A quiet space to work (bring your own laptop).
  • Structured time to write.
  • Meals throughout the days of attendance, in addition to lots of coffee and tea.
  • The opportunity to build community with other students working on their writing.
  • The opportunity to make connections for developing writing and support groups outside of the retreat.
  • Resource materials related to research and writing.

Some of the progress that students made over our Research Writing Retreat for Graduate Students included:

  • Completing drafts of two chapters.
  • Completing half of a research proposal.
  • Determining their sample procedure and reviewing the first three chapters to make them more parallel.
  • Reorganizing their paper and correcting formatting issues.
  • Submitting a full draft of their dissertation to their advisor!!

Sample Schedule:

Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • 8:00-8:30 - Check-in, breakfast, get settled
  • 8:30-9:00 - Welcome, goal setting, writing tips
  • 9:00-12:00 - Writing Time
  • 12:00-1:00 - Lunch break
  • 1:00-4:45- Writing Time (with option break at 3:00)
  • 4:45-5:00 - Debrief

Saturday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • 9:00-9:15- Goal setting
  • 9:15-12:00 - Writing Time
  • 12:00-1:00 - Lunch break
  • 1:00-4:45- Writing Time (with option break at 3:00)
  • 4:45-5:00 - Debrief
