Faculty and Staff

Often students who are having trouble will not contact Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) first, but instead will seek out support from faculty and staff members.  While this support may be enough to see them through a difficult time, sometimes a student needs more.  In some cases, mental health support and services may significantly benefit the student.

CAPS staff will consult with faculty and staff regarding how to approach a student in distress, how to suggest counseling, and what resources are available for students. We also consult on how to deal with difficult situations and can provide assistance in emergencies or more urgent matters.  Faculty and staff may contact our office during business hours and be connected with an on-call clinician who can provide immediate consultation and guidance.

Faculty and staff who have concerns about an undergraduate student’s academic performance should utilize the Early Alert System.
