What is New Student Orientation?
New Student Orientation is designed to give you an inside track into what it means to be a Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Ashtabula student. New Student Orientation will help you become familiar with the campus, identify the resources available to help you succeed, give you the opportunity to develop relationships with our faculty and staff, and prepare you for new and exciting experiences at KSUA.
Who Should Attend New Student Orientation?
New first year students and transfer students with under 30 college credits hours are required to attend New Student Orientation prior to registering for classes. Students who have over 30 college credit hours, guest/transient students, and students who have attended any Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ campus in the past five years are not required to attend. New Student Orientation is a family program; we encourage all students to bring parents or other guests
When will I find out about my new student orientation date?
Students are provided their orientation date along with placement testing requirements in their acceptance packets and in their email (this is sent to your personal and Kent state email). If you need to reschedule your assigned date please call 440-964-4217.

I'm a transfer student, do I need to attend New Student Orientation?
If you have over 30 credit hours as a transfer you do not need to attend orientation as you are considered a sophomore. Students with less than 30 hours are considered freshman and are assigned an orientation date
Where do I check in once I arrive for New Student Orientation?
Please check in outside of the Auditorium, which is just inside the east entrance of Main Hall.
What should I wear to New Student Orientation?
We suggest that you wear something comfortable and appropriate for the weather conditions, keeping in mind that you may be walking to other buildings on campus. Dress in layers so that you can be comfortable regardless of the temperature in the buildings.
What is the program schedule?

Will I get to schedule my classes at New Student Orientation?
Please check your confirmation email regarding steps for scheduling classes. Students who have completed required placement exams are able to schedule and will be provided timing information in their email.
I haven't completed placement testing, can I still attend New Student Orientation?
It is strongly encouraged that students complete testing prior to orientation, but there will be a window of time scheduled during orientation for students to test. Be advised that students cannot be be given a schedule until their placement tests are complete.
Will I be able to talk to someone about accommodations for my disability?
Private walk-in appointments will be offered for students wanting to discuss accommodations for disabilities. Please contact Carol Jones at 440.964.4304
Can I bring my parents or other guests to New Student Orientation?
Absolutely! We encourage students to bring parents or other guests to New Student Orientation. You will be able to indicate how many guests you plan to bring when you register.

What will I learn at New Student Orientation?
As a result of attending New Student Orientation, new Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University at Ashtabula students will be able to:
- Navigate the physical campus
- Develop a connection to the Kent Ashtabula community
- Identify campus academic and support services
- Demonstrate the ability to use technology resources
- Gain insight into the role of academic advising
- Demonstrate the ability to locate financial services information
- Acquire an understanding of and appreciation for the Kent Core
- Understand the uses for their FlashCard
