School of Art adjunct professor and painting M.F.A. alumni, Sarah Esposito, will be opening her first solo show, “Into the Syncline”, at Kink Contemporary in Cleveland on February 18, 2023. The show will include elements of painting and collage landscapes that mirror the artist’s relationship with the natural world. “Into the Syncline” is inspired by the folds in the earth’s crust, like those that form mountains and islands. Sarah Esposito has examined these formations recently in Colorado and other regional parks.
“Raised in the Appalachian Mountains, being outdoors and experiencing the landscape drove my artistic practice. From traditional painting en plein air, I began to document, through watercolor paintings and sketching, moments in the landscape that I found curious while also familiar. I always found a sense of comfort while painting the landscape representationally, like being in the presence of someone that makes you feel safe and who knows you completely.” Says Sarah Esposito
Esposito lives and works in Cleveland, Ohio. She is also an adjunct instructor at both ɫҹ University and Ashland University, teaching Introductory Level Art Appreciation, Drawing, 2D, and 3D courses. Esposito received her B.A. in Studio Art from Fairmont State University in 2020 and her M.F.A. from ɫҹ University in 2022.
“Into the Syncline” opens at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, and will run through Friday, April 7, 2023.
