School of Theatre and Dance Welcomes Ambre Emory-Maier as Assistant Professor of Dance

Kent, OH – The School of Theatre and Dance is pleased to announce the appointment of Ambre Emory-Maier as assistant professor of Dance beginning in the Fall of 2022.

Ambre Emory-Maier comes to Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ from BalletMet in Columbus, Ohio where she recently served as both Associate Director of BALLETMET 2 and Director of Education, Equity, and Community Engagement (2021). Holding multiple certifications in Labanotation in addition to teaching courses, Ambre will be able to stage notable works of choreography while also developing community engagement programs to help expand the regional impact of Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹'s dance program. Professor Emory-Maier will also work with the Kent Dance Ensemble on connecting with the local, regional, and national dance community.  

Emory-Maier holds a B.A. in Communications from the State University of New York at Geneseo, an M.A. in Dance Research and Reconstruction from the City University of New York, and an M.F.A. in Choreography and Performance from The Ohio State University. Additionally, she has studied Performance and Restaging Techniques at the State University of New York at Brockport, studied the instruction of ballet based on the Leningrad Pedagogical System of Teaching at the School of the Hartford Ballet, and Labanotation at the Dance Notation Bureau.

Emory-Maier is known for her dance reconstructions and has worked with multiple foundations and choreographers such as Donald McKayle, The George Balanchine Trust, and the Martha Graham Dance company. She was a transmitter of the work of BalletMet artistic director and internationally renown choreographer Edwaard Liang.

Her additional research focuses on British sociability and 19th century ballroom dances. Ambre brings her acknowledged kinship with dance, yoga, meditation and mental health to her practices.
