How does the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ community find out what events are happening on campus? Where do you go to find your weekend plans? "Where On the Web?" is an ongoing series that introduces possibly unfamiliar pages and features on the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University website that students, faculty and staff should know about. One informative section of the website is the Events Calendar which can be used by anyone and features events from all eight Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ campuses.
Turmoil from recent wars and tragedies causes millions to be displaced from their homes every year. This year is no exception with the intensifying conflict in Ukraine, forcing millions of refugees to find safety elsewhere. Not only do these refugees need shelter, but they also need education and the opportunity to have new life experiences in different countries.
In advance of Monday’s observance of the Juneteenth federal holiday, we asked members of the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University community to reflect on the federal holiday and share their thoughts on what they hope it means for the university.
When recent Undergraduate Student Government (USG) President Chazzlyn Jackson started her journey at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University in 2018, she had planned to major in fashion until a mentor with Kupita/Transiciones (K/T) cultural orientation program helped her tap into her leadership abilities and passion for social justice issues. The advice played a pivotal role for Jackson, who stepped into leadership roles and anti-racism advocacy and has not looked back.
During Á½ÐÔÉ«Îçҹ’s spring 2022 commencement on May 14, Jameson Payne will earn his bachelor’s degree in integrative studies with concentrations in physics and political science. Benjamin Wales-McGrath will graduate with a bachelor’s degree in cellular and molecular biology at the age of 18.
After a 21-year absence, Chagrin Falls resident James Reinart will be crossing the stage at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University’s spring commencement ceremonies on May 14, 2022, to become a Golden Flash alumnus.
Leadership roles in the Interfraternity Council and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity served as preparation for Dylan Mace's service on the Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Board of Trustees when Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine appointed him in July 2020. Mace’s two-year term, in which he served as a member of the Board’s Academic Excellence and Student Success Committee and the Finance and Administration Committee, will expire May 16, 2022.
The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University Board of Trustees recently approved the naming of the Burton D. Morgan Foundation Entrepreneurship Suite, a space that includes the LaunchNET offices, the Marty Erbaugh i3 Lab and surrounding areas within the Design Innovation (DI) Hub.
Taking action in addressing issues of inequality and political polarization, demonstrating motivation and potential for long term civic engagement and engaging with others to create social change are all ways one could be committed to service. These qualities are the requirements for the Newman Civic Fellowship and traits that Isobel Day, Newman Civic Fellow, exemplifies.
Á½ÐÔÉ«Îçҹ’s Career and Community Studies (CCS) program has partnered with the Bursar’s Office to provide opportunities for students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to develop professional skills and help them transition into the workforce. Ellie McGregor, a fourth-year student currently in her final semester in the CCS program, has found great success and made solid contributions in the office while honing her business skills. She is an example of what this program can do for students.
