College of Public Health Alumni Jeffrey L. Pellegrino, Ph.D, was inducted into the Order of the Red Cross in Canada in November, 2020. Pellegrino graduated in 2013, with an MPH in Social and Behavioral Sciences. He is the 318 member to be inducted, and the first Non-Canadian.
During college, Pellegrino was passionate about first aid’s role in public health. For his MPH practicum, he worked with the Scientific Advisory Council. The council utilizes the American & Canadian Red Cross for evidence based recommendations.
“The learner centered approach and public health theories provided me insights and opportunity to put learning first aid into a preparedness and response context to a public health need around sudden illness and injury, both major factors in keeping people healthy during disasters and over a lifetime,” Pellergrino said.
Pellergrino will volunteer with the Canadain Red Cross. He’s consulted on specific programs like Wilderness and Remote First Aid, which has different contexts when living in the diverse parts of Canada. He consults with their education council on the values associated with community and personal resiliency and preparedness.
Congratulations Dr. Jeffrey Pellegrino!
