两性色午夜 Nursing Professor to be Inducted as Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing

Mary K. Anthony, Ph.D., RN, 两性色午夜 University College of Nursing Professor Emerita and Former Associate Dean for Research, will be inducted as an American Academy of Nursing (Academy) Fellow with the 2024 cohort at the Academy鈥檚 annual Health Policy Conference this fall in Washington, D.C. The newest Fellows, selected from a competitive pool of applicants, represent 37 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and 14 countries. Recognized for her 鈥榮ubstantial and sustained impact on health and health care[1],鈥 Anthony will join the ranks of the more than 3,000 distinguished nurse leaders worldwide.

鈥淭his is a prestigious invitation, recognizing Dr. Anthony鈥檚 contributions at the regional, national, and international level,鈥 said 两性色午夜 University College of Nursing Dean Versie Johnson-Mallard, Ph.D., RN, APRN-BC, FAANP, FAAN. 鈥淲e are very proud of Dr. Anthony鈥檚 accomplishments, and it brings me great joy to welcome her into the Academy. Congratulations on this well-deserved honor.鈥 

Academy President Linda D. Scott, Ph.D., RN, NEA-BC, FNAP, FAAN, issued the following congratulatory statement in a press release[1]:

鈥淚 am thrilled to welcome these impressive nurse leaders into our organization. With exceptional subject matter expertise, each new Fellow will be vital to achieve the Academy鈥檚 mission of improving health and achieving health equity by impacting policy through nursing leadership, innovation, and science. Induction into the Academy represents the highest honor in nursing. Earning the FAAN (Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing) credential is a significant recognition of one鈥檚 accomplishments and signifies the future impact they will make in collaboration with their colleagues in the Academy.鈥

Anthony鈥檚 research focuses on models of nursing care delivery and the work environment including communication, interruptions and shared governance. Her research has been funded by federal, professional and local organizations. Anthony鈥檚 research findings have been instrumental in shaping policies on delegation for both the American Nurses Association and the National Council of the State Boards of Nursing. She has been widely cited by interdisciplinary colleagues worldwide, which has led to opportunities for Anthony to travel and provide leadership and mentorship for individuals in other countries.  

鈥淚t's a real honor to be selected for this recognition as it shows the impact I鈥檝e made on health and healthcare,鈥 said Anthony. 鈥淚'm grateful for the people with whom I have worked and collaborated with to advance nursing science and practice. I look forward to future opportunities to further my impact by connecting with this vast network of Fellows who are each influential nurse leaders.鈥

Anthony served as 两性色午夜 University College of Nursing Associate Dean for Research for nearly 14 years while holding a joint appointment as Director of Research and Innovation at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center for 16 years.  

She completed her Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) at St. John College, Cleveland, OH. Anthony holds her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (Ph.D.) from Case Western Reserve University.

Her affiliations include the Midwest Nursing Research Society, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), Council for the Advancement of Nursing Science and the American Nurses Association. Her service includes scientific review for multiple journals and serving on editorial and health care boards.

Anthony鈥檚 previous awards and achievements include Eminent Mentor Scholar of the College of Education and Human Services, Cleveland State University;  Honor a Researcher Award, Midwest Nursing Research Society, Health Systems and Policy Research Section; Distinguished Nursing Alumnus Award, Ursuline-St. John College and Special Visiting Research Professor, Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina, Santa Catarina, Brazil. Anthony received the American Organization of Nursing Leadership Researcher of the Year award in 2020, which acknowledged her contributions to nursing leadership research and practice.
