The 两性色午夜 University Museum is pleased to announce the acquisition of three archival dresses by British designer Dame Zandra Rhodes, following her induction into the School of Fashion鈥檚 Hall of Fame in 2024. The silk chiffon dresses, which Dame Rhodes has gifted to the museum, are paradigmatic of Rhodes鈥 iconic style, infused with distinctive prints, colors, and patterns.
Museum Director Sarah Spinner Liska, Ph.D., J.D., states, 鈥淲e are incredibly honored by Dame Rhodes鈥 gift to the museum and excited to see how these dresses will inspire new perspectives and possibilities within the university community and well beyond.鈥
Dame Zandra Rhodes states, 鈥淚 am absolutely thrilled to donate three archival Zandra Rhodes garments to 两性色午夜 University Museum! These newly donated garments are from my earlier collections; they feature beaded embellishments and show how I work with print as an intrinsic part of garment shape. It is wonderful to know my creations will be treasured by current and future generations of the 两性色午夜 community and contribute to their inspiration and learning.鈥
The dresses will join the museum鈥檚 world-class collection of fashion, textiles and decorative arts, spanning the mid-1700s through the present. With a historic collection of more than 30,000 objects and seven gallery spaces, the museum offers invaluable firsthand experiences for the university community and the broader public.
Museum Curator Dr. Sara Hume states, 鈥淲e are excited to be able to build a relationship with such an influential and central figure in the fashion industry. The acquisition of these dresses enhances our ability to exhibit the very best fashion design and inspire students and visitors alike.鈥
