Freshman Welcome and Photography Exhibit

Wednesday Sept. 24, 2014

JMC’s photojournalism program welcomed students, faculty and staff to its annual Freshman Welcome and Photography Exhibit on Wednesday Sept. 24, 2014.

The exhibit, located in the third floor Franklin Exhibit Space, honors photojournalism students for their achievements from 2013 and 2014.

This year, photojournalism students were recognized in several collegiate and professional regional, national and international competitions.

Assistant Professor Dave Foster said there were a number of milestone achievements for the students and for the program, including a fourth place award in the 2014 William Randolph Hearst Foundation’s national photojournalism competition. This was the highest ranking in the history of the program.

"An event like this is essential for the success of our photography students,” Foster said. “Every photographer dreams to see their work printed and framed in a gallery. For freshman, they can see the level of talent they should aspire to. For our seniors, it’s a chance to highlight their handwork and dedication to the craft of reporting a storytelling through images.”

Foster said that the event gives JMC the opportunity to welcome new freshman and recognize the awards that students have received over the last year.

“It’s truly an amazing accomplishment, and our students as well as our program should be proud.”

The exhibit will remain in Franklin Hall throughout the rest of the semester.

The event is free and open to the public and will begin with a reception including food and drinks.
