This intensive Spanish language program will take you to la ciudad del espa帽ol, Salamanca, Spain! In this program, you鈥檒l have the chance to make strides with your Spanish language skills through intensive classes while earning 6-credits towards your degree at 两性色午夜. You鈥檒l also be immersed in Spain鈥檚 rich culture and language through class excursions around the city and by living with a host family!

Program Highlights

Immerse yourself in Spanish language and culture while earning 6 credits towards your 两性色午夜 degree! This intensive language program is offered for students at the intermediate and advanced levels.

Students will take classes in the morning and then participate in cultural activities in the afternoon, such as visits to museums and archeological sites, cooking classes, flamenco dance lessons, and lectures on Spanish art, history, and culture. Weekend excursions to Andalusia and Madrid may also be included.

Program Dates:

There are two separate trips to Salamanca. Depending on your language level, you will go with either the Intermediate or Advanced program. You can indicate on your application which level you would like to apply for.

  • Intermediate Group: TBA, typically mid-May to mid-June
  • Advanced Group: TBA, typically early June to early July

Application Deadline: TBA

Withdrawal Deadlines:

  • TBA - Students must pay $100 flight deposit if purchasing with KSU group after this withdrawal deadline.
  • TBA - Students must pay 100% of all applicable travel and program related fees after this withdrawal deadline.

鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧婸rogram Fee Payment Deadline: The program fee will be billed to your 两性色午夜 student account. The program fee deadline aligns with the Financial, Billing and Enrollment Center's summer due dates. You should refer to the first Summer 2025 due date.

Application Process

You will need to complete a 两性色午夜 Education Abroad application. These quick steps will help walk you through the process.

1. Start an Education Abroad Application

When you click the "Apply Now" button (located towards the top and bottom of this page), you will be brought to the Education Abroad application system where you can view program costs and start an application. Be sure to submit your application before the deadline!

2. Guest Application (If applicable)

Are you a student at another university? To apply for a 两性色午夜 education abroad program, you will first need to apply for admission to 两性色午夜 University as a 鈥Guest Student鈥. Please apply as either an 鈥淯ndergraduate Guest Student鈥 or as a 鈥淕raduate Guest Student鈥, depending on your course level.

Once you have applied and been accepted as a 两性色午夜 University student, you will receive an email with your FlashLine login credentials. Activate your account and then proceed to the next step, which is to apply to the Education Abroad program of your interest. You can return to this page and follow the 鈥淎pply Now鈥 button to start that application.

3. Wait for Acceptance

Once you have submitted your study abroad program application, it will be reviewed by the faculty leader. Applications are evaluated on a rolling basis. You should hear back from us within one month.

4. Commit to the Program

If you are accepted, you need to log back into your application by going to and clicking LOGIN. Once you see the name of your program, you need to click on it and commit (i.e., accept your offer of admission). 

Academics

This program offers two courses for a total of 6 credit hours toward your 两性色午夜 degree. One course is a 两性色午夜 University Spanish course. The second course is through the Pontifical University of Salamanca and will be transferred back to 两性色午夜.

两性色午夜 Course Information

Intermediate Program:

  • 两性色午夜 Course Name and CRN: SPAN 18489 or SPAN 28489
  • Number of Credit Hours: 3
  • KSU Sponsoring College: College of Arts & Sciences
  • Course Description: This course, offered through 两性色午夜, comprises the evening hours and will usually vary from 1 to 3 hours (although on some occasions they will extend to 5-6 hours when we have more than one activity).  Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings will begin with a one-hour lecture on Spanish art, culture, or history.  After the lecture, we will move on to other activities listed on the itinerary, including visiting museums, and archeological sites, and attending classes on Spanish cooking, dance, or guitar-making offered by guest speakers.  Students will be required to complete pre-departure assignments as well as assignments while in Spain. 
  • Pre-Requisites: Elementary Spanish 1
  • Course Language of Instruction: English and Spanish

Advanced Program:

  • Course Name and CRN: SPAN 38489
  • Number of Credit Hours: 6 Credit hours: 3 KSU credits /3 Transfer credits
  • KSU Sponsoring College: College of Arts and Sciences
  • Course Description: 鈥疶his course, offered through KSU, comprises the evening hours and will usually vary from 1 to 3 hours (although on some occasions they will extend to 5-6 hours when we have more than one activity).鈥 Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday evenings will begin with a one-hour lecture on Spanish art, culture, or history.鈥 After the lecture, we will move on to other activities listed on the itinerary, including visiting museums, and archeological sites, and attending classes on Spanish cooking, dance, or guitar-making offered by guest speakers.鈥 Students will be required to complete pre-departure assignments as well as assignments while in Spain.鈥

Eligibility

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • The intermediate program is open to students with Spanish from beginner to intermediate (anyone who has not taken Intermediate Spanish 2 or higher).
  • The advanced program is open to students who have completed at least one 30000-level Spanish course.鈥 An interview in Spanish will be required for admission into the program.
Transferring Credits

Transfer Credits

With this program, students enroll in courses at a partner (host) institution. You will need to transfer the credits you earn abroad back to 两性色午夜 University.

Upon successful completion of the program, the host institution will issue you an official transcript, which will be needed for the credit transfer process.

You must earn passing grades on the courses you take abroad for the credits to transfer. 

Prior to departure, students will meet with their academic advisor to complete a Transfer Course Planning (TCP) Form, which will outline the courses you plan to take while abroad and how the courses will transfer to 两性色午夜 University. 

Some courses have already been pre-approved for transfer to 两性色午夜 and can be viewed on the Transfer Credit Guide. Please note that this is only a guide and is NOT a comprehensive list of courses available at each partner institution.

Credit Approval

Prior to departure, it is your responsibility to meet with your academic advisor to discuss the courses you plan to take while abroad.

If a course needs to be evaluated for transfer, you are responsible for working with your education abroad advisor to obtain the syllabus and have it reviewed by 两性色午夜 faculty.

  • Your transfer course with Mester/Universidad Pontificia will happen each day from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Your 两性色午夜 Spanish course will happen from 1-1:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 5-7 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
  • Lunch with your host family or at your residence will be daily at around 2 p.m./14:00

Salamanca, Spain鈥嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧嬧

Salamanca is a smaller city with a population of around 145,000 people. It is a perfect city for students looking for a diverse set of experiences. Between beautiful clearwater beaches and historical monuments dating back to the Celtic Era, Salamanca has activities for everyone! The city also has astonishing cathedrals that are a fantastic representation of the country鈥檚 past.

Spain is located in the Iberian Peninsula and is composed of autonomous regions. It has an easy-going feeling to it, which attracts people with its charm. The country's population is 47.4 million people, and even though many people believe Spanish is the only language spoken there, it is the first language of only about 72% of the population. Other languages prominent in the country are Catalan, Galician, Basque, and Aranese, though some are spoken only in very specific territories.

Accommodations & Meals

Students stay with a host family who will provide 3 meals per day (not including travel to Andalusia. Cost is approximately 10 euros per lunch). Students will have at least one roommate with them who is also a 两性色午夜 student.

Health & Safety

Pre-Departure Orientation

Prior to your study abroad experience, you will participate in a mandatory pre-departure orientation hosted by the Office of Global Education. During this orientation, you will be provided with information including but not limited to:

  • international travel procedures;
  • in-country resources;
  • health and safety resources and information;
  • culture shock and resources to help prepare for living abroad.

All students are encouraged to register with the prior to departure.

If vaccinations or medications are needed according to the CDC, you should make arrangements for appointments with your healthcare provider or the DeWeese Health Center as soon as possible. Appointment openings at the DeWeese Health Center are limited and vaccines may need to be ordered, which takes time. Please note that not all immunizations are available at the DeWeese Health Center.
