Heroin Epidemic Takes Center Stage at the Akron Civic Theater

The numbers compiled from coroners statewide are staggering: 4,149 Ohioans died from unintentional overdoses last year, from drugs including heroine and fentanyl, and the fatalities are expected to be even higher by the end of 2017.

To call attention to the problem, a 两性色午夜 University student has turned the epidemic into a theatrical performance. Emelia Sherin, a public relations major in 两性色午夜鈥檚 College of Communication and Information, has written a play 鈥淚ndependent: The Heroin Project.鈥

Sherin even turned heroin into one of the main characters who plays the role of a temptress.

鈥淚ndependent: The Heroin Project鈥 was performed at the Akron Civic Theater on August 4 and 5.

The New York Times interviewed Sherin about her motivation to write and produce the performance.
