Great American Smokeout Resource Table

Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University will be a smoke-free, tobacco-free campus on July 1, 2017. Consequently, you are invited to learn more about the available smoking cessation programs and resources at an event on Nov. 17, the date of the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout event. All Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ faculty, staff and students are invited.

Stop by the resource tables on the second floor mezzanine at the Kent Student Center on Thursday, Nov. 17, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Wellness will have educational materials on tobacco cessation, resources for quitting, refreshments, prizes and giveaways!

Ready. Set. Glow to the Rainbow Run on Sept. 21!

Join us for the third annual Rainbow Run, coordinated by Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University’s Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ) Student Center. This year, we will have a glow run!

The Wick Poetry Center is thrilled to announce its collaboration with the Library of Congress, which will feature the Traveling Stanzas exhibit at the 18th Library of Congress National Book Festival on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Washington Convention Center.

 

Calling All Bowlers

The Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University Faculty/Staff Bowling League is now accepting new teams, members and substitute bowlers. Bowlers compete weekly on Monday evenings at 6:20 p.m. at Spins Bowl Kent (formerly Bill White’s Twinstar Lanes) on State Route 59 in Kent.

 

The bowling league is open to all full-time, part-time and retired employees, as well as their families and friends.

 

Main Street Kent Partners With Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ to Hold Kent International Festival After Run The World 5K Race

The fourth annual Run the World 5K will take place at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University on Saturday, Sept. 8. The race raises money for the Run the World Fund, which provides scholarships for university study abroad programs.

 

New this year following the race, Main Street Kent, is sponsoring an International Festival downtown.

Elizabeth Herndon, Ph.D., assistant professor of geology in Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University, received a five-year, $487,000 Faculty Early Career Development (CAREER) Award from the National Science Foundation.

One of the factors that influences the ability of plants and soils to store carbon is the focus of a new study by Elizabeth Herndon, Ph.D., assistant professor of geology in Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University’s College of Arts and Sciences.

Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Receives State Historic Preservation Award for Preserving May 4 History and Site

The events of May 4, 1970, placed Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
