The ASL/English Interpreting program at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ helped me prepare to be the best interpreter I could be. The professors all demonstrated great skill and knowledge in the profession. Our professors were welcoming and helped guide us through the program even when we came into the program barely knowing any sign language at all. As we grew and advanced in the program, they could target the skills we needed to improve on most as individuals, but also praised us on how far we’ve come.
The ASEI program had great diversity allowing us to practice in different fields within the profession, such as Mental Health, Medical, Community, Educational, Video Relay and so on. We were fortunate to have so many opportunities within the Deaf/HOH community as well to practice our interpreting. Though this program was challenging at times, it surpassed my expectations and prepared me for graduation where I would then become a professional Interpreter, working alongside my cohort but also my professors.
I continue to develop as a professional Interpreter and improve my skills daily as I was able to be hired right after graduation as a VRS and community Interpreter. I truly love what I do and couldn’t thank my professors and fellow classmates for their constant support and feedback. I am a proud Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ Alumnus, with the highest of praise for this program.
