The College of the Arts is thrilled to announce the winners of the ArtsLAUNCH! Fall 2022 Grant Competition, co-sponsored by LaunchNET Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹.
The competition was open to all undergraduate and graduate students enrolled at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University. Applicants were asked to submit proposals in one of two categories: 1) the creation of new art demonstrating creativity and uniqueness or 2) the creation of a new art venture that would positively impact the arts economy.
Congratulations to our Fall 2022 ArtsLAUNCH! winners Raquel Nevar (New Art, Undergraduate) for her submission "The Beauty of Violence," Camila Cordeiro Valle (New Art, Graduate) for her exploration of sustainable fashion through 3D print waste, and Frances Brunner (New Arts Venture, Undergraduate) for the "MindOn Design" Podcast.
The proposals were judged by a panel consisting of Marie Bukowski, Tim Culver, Tony Hardin, Mourad Krifa, Wendy Matthews, Nick Petrella, and Sarah Rogers.

Raquel Nevar
Program of Study: Digital Media Production
Category: New Art, Undergraduate
Project: "The Beauty of Violence"
Project Summary: "The Beauty of Violence" project is a short film, produced by Raquel Nevar, about a woman who is trying to find herself. It focuses on the violence and beauty of different genres of music and the acceptance that can come along with it. With the grant, they plan of filming the project and submitting it to film festivals around the country as well as internationally.

Camila Cordeiro Valle
Program of Study: Fashion Industry Studies
Category: New Art, Graduate
Project: "Exploring Sustainable Fashion through 3D Print Waste"
Project Summary: Camila Cordeiro Valle based her graduate thesis on sustainable fashion through 3D print waste. She is researching how to take waste from the 3D printers in the DI Hub and weave it into fabrics. Using different methods and tools, Camilla has been able to isolate plastic pieces and weave it into patterns and designs. She has also been able to fuse plastics to fabrics as well. The grant will allow Camilla to continue research and host a Co-Creative Workshop for others to make fabrics and clothes with 3D waste.

Frances Brunner

Project: "MindOn Design" Podcast
Project Summary: The "MindOn Design" podcast, by Frances Brunner, explores the art perspective from creators to consumers. The podcast was started after noticing a gap in the industry regarding design and the story behind it. This podcast could help students who are trying to find the right career path after graduation. Additionally, Frances wants to create a community in the College of the Arts. The grant will help Frances take the podcast internationally, by helping her purchase equipment to assist in interviewing and collaborating with people outside of the radio studio.
