The National Capital Alumni Chapter hosts events and programs that engage almost 3,000 alumni living in the greater Washington D.C. area. From private tours at museums to participating in Alumni Day of Service, there is always something going on in the D.C. area to connect alumni and students.
We caught up with the National Capital Alumni Chapter Vice President, Matt Dermody, ’10, to hear about the amazing things the chapter is doing.
What are some chapter traditions?
Our traditions include group outings to our world-renowned Smithsonian museums, weekday happy hours, and Nationals baseball games when the Indians are in town. In addition, our chapter board is particularly proud to serve as a welcoming and mentoring resource to current Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ juniors and seniors interning in the Washington Program in National Issues (WPNI) program each spring.
We also take part in the KSU Alumni Day of Service! This year we are preparing and packaging meals at Food & Friends on April 27. #FlashesGiveBack
How can alumni, friends and family become involved?
The best way to become involved is to attend an event or meeting. Visit our Facebook page to learn more about upcoming activities. For additional information on becoming involved, contact chapter vice president Matt Dermody, ’10, at mdermody88@gmail.com or assistant director, Jill Pecoraro, ’09, M.Ed., at jpecorar@kent.edu.
Any additional information about your chapter you would like to share?
Our chapter values supporting students. We offer scholarships to current students from the greater D.C. who demonstrate academic, leadership, service and extracurricular achievements. If you are interested in assisting us in this endeavor, you can make an online gift to the WPNI Alumni Scholarship .
