PAC Announces 2017-18 Season

On Aug. 18, the 两性色午夜 University at Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center 2017-18 season launches with comedian Lucas Bohn, the first of 25 diverse and high quality performances. The season will also feature concerts, Broadway shows, family shows and additional comedy.

鈥淭his season is highlighted by multiple award winning entertainers,鈥 said Dr. Brad Bielski, dean and chief administrative officer of 两性色午夜 Tuscarawas. 鈥淲e have three Grammy winning musicians and three Tony winning Broadway shows scheduled to appear on the PAC stage as well as Emmy Award winning comedienne Vicki Lawrence who is one of the most beloved television personalities of her generation.鈥

Vicki LawrenceIn her show Vicki Lawrence and Mama: A Two-Woman Show, she plays the first half of her show as herself and the second half as Thelma 鈥淢ama鈥 Harper from 鈥淢ama鈥檚 Family鈥 and 鈥淭he Carol Burnett Show,鈥 Vicki will put on a performance full of hilarious stand-up comedy, music and anecdotes about real life.

Headlining the diverse Music Series are Grammy winners Rick Springfield, Lee Ann Womack and Mary Chapin Carpenter. Students in the area will get a chance to perform with a cappella sensation Cadence and New Basics Brass Band. 鈥淟ast season we brought in an a cappella group which toured to local elementary schools and then worked with two high school choirs,鈥 said David Mitchell, PAC general manager. 鈥淚t was such an amazing experience for all those involved, I wanted to expand the offering to include band students as well the choirs. New Basics Brass Band describes their sound as sousaphone-driven feel-good music so I鈥檓 sure they will be a big hit with students.鈥

The music series is rounded out by arena rock-pop icons 38 Special and critically-acclaimed vocalist Helen Welch paying tribute to the music of The Carpenters.

鈥淏roadway shows are always a favorite with our patrons,鈥 stated Mitchell. 鈥淭his season, I鈥檓 delighted to bring some of the most enduring stories and music that has ever graced the Broadway stage.鈥

The entire family will be captivated as they travel down the Yellow Brick Road and beyond with Dorothy, Toto and their friends the Cowardly Lion, Tin Man and Scarecrow. The Wizard of Oz is a lavish production, featuring breathtaking special effects, dazzling choreography and classic songs. 鈥淒on鈥檛 miss the chance to travel Over the Rainbow and experience this national treasure on stage,鈥 added Mitchell.

The spirited, romantic and beloved musical The Sound of Music is the story of Maria and the von Trapp Family. It will once again thrill audiences with its Tony庐, Grammy庐 and Academy Award庐 winning Best Score, including 鈥淢y Favorite Things,鈥 鈥淒o-Re-Mi,鈥 鈥淐limb Ev鈥檙y Mountain,鈥 鈥淓delweiss鈥 and the title song.

With Rodgers + Hammerstein鈥檚 CINDERELLA, audiences will enjoy this contemporary take on the classic tale which features an incredible orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all the moments you love鈥攖he pumpkin, the glass slipper, the masked ball and more鈥攑lus some surprising new twists! Rediscover this hilarious and romantic Broadway experience for anyone who鈥檚 ever had a wish, a dream... or a really great pair of shoes.

Based on Roundabout Theatre Company鈥檚 Tony Award庐-winning production, Cabaret closes out the Broadway season. Come hear some of the most memorable songs in theatre history, including 鈥淐abaret,鈥 鈥淲illkommen鈥 and 鈥淢aybe This Time.鈥 This production contains mature content.

鈥淢any times after an artist has played in our beautiful facility, they can鈥檛 wait to come back. This is absolutely the case with Alton Brown,鈥 explained Mitchell. 鈥淗e鈥檒l be coming back to New Philadelphia with his new show Alton Brown Live: Eat Your Science. Fans can expect more comedy, talk show antics, multimedia presentations and music (yes, he sings), but Brown is adding a slew of fresh ingredients including new puppets, songs and bigger and potentially more dangerous experiments. Brown has a knack for mixing together a perfect base of science, music and food into two hours of pure entertainment.鈥

Memorable holiday performances include Christmas with the Annie Moses Band and Sister鈥檚 Christmas Catechism: The Mystery of the Magi鈥檚 Gold. 鈥淲e had the show Late Nite Catechism a few seasons ago and the audience loved it,鈥 explained Mitchell. 鈥淭hey couldn鈥檛 stop laughing! I鈥檓 excited to bring 鈥淪ister鈥 back in this follow-up show which is bound to bring a smile to anyone鈥檚 face during the holidays.鈥

Family shows coming to the PAC include Erth鈥檚 Dinosaur Zoo Live and Peter Pan 鈥 A 3D Stage Spectacular where audience members will receive 3D glasses and literally fly with Peter Pan and Wendy to Never Never Land. According to Mitchell, he is very excited for the audience to experience special effects never seen before at the PAC: Holograms, video-mapping and huge L.E.D. screens.

鈥淚鈥檓 thrilled to introduce a new series to the PAC season this year,鈥 said Mitchell. 鈥淥ur Come Hear Series will introduce our audiences to new artists they otherwise might not get a chance to experience. I really think people are going to enjoy these artists and I encourage them to 鈥淐ome Hear鈥 some brilliant music in our exceptional PAC environment.鈥 Artists scheduled for the Come Hear Series include David Myles, a co-headlining show with Royal Wood and Diana Chittester and Rosie & the Riveters.

The popular Cabaret Series returns and features performances by Tri 鈥 C, Alex Bevan, Mo' Mojo and The Portersharks. The cabaret tickets are $45 and include dinner.

鈥淔or the third year, Michael Taylor Insurance & Financial, Inc., will sponsor the upcoming season,鈥 added Bielski. 鈥淲e are also grateful for the third consecutive year sponsorships of AquaBlue Inc. for the Cabaret Series and the Tuscarawas County Community Foundation鈥檚 sponsorship of our Broadway Series. Both Alonovus and House of Stones are joining us as well as series sponsors for the second year. These partnerships enable us to keep our PAC ticket prices affordable and accessible to those who want to attend our shows.鈥
