Local Partnerships Highlight Eleanor Dubinsky Concert

Multilingual musician Eleanor Dubinsky will perform at the Performing Arts Center at 两性色午夜 University - Tuscarawas on April 21 at 7:30 p.m.

A vocalist, guitarist and cellist, Dubinsky鈥檚 music is joyous, uplifting and deeply generous; a blend of world-beats, jazz and pop music met with emotionally forthright songwriting. Singing in English, French, Spanish and Portuguese, Eleanor and her multi-faceted band bring linguistic and cultural fluency to dynamic compositions and capture the emotions and soul of a community in a song.

鈥淭he Performing Arts Center strives to provide opportunities to serve the needs of the community in which we live,鈥 explains David Mitchell, general manager of the Performing Arts Center. 鈥淔ew artists have as diverse a skillset as Eleanor Dubinsky. We鈥檙e thrilled to make partnerships with Empower Tusc Coalition as well as three local school districts to take advantage of her ability to speak to so many segments of our population through her music and workshops.鈥

In spring 2021, Eleanor, Frank and Sally Ponzio released Remember Me, a tribute to a mother recovering from losing her son to opioid addiction. Remember Me鈥檚 mission is to provide comfort for those directly affected by this crisis and to aid like-minded organizations in spreading their message of addiction awareness and prevention.

鈥淜nowing the struggles of local families impacted by opioid addiction and the healing power of music and the shared communal connection from a live experience, the PAC is humbled to partner with the Empower Tusc Coalition to offer free tickets to Eleanor鈥檚 concert at the PAC to anyone who attends the Coalition鈥檚 upcoming free movie series at the Quaker Cinema,鈥 adds Mitchell. The free movie events take place on Monday, April 11 & April 18 starting at 7:00 p.m.

"We are extremely thankful for this unique and powerful partnership with the PAC," explains Kerry Metzger Empower Tusc Chair. "We believe in talking about and teaching about addiction in an authentic way. This partnership allows us to show our appreciation for community members taking the initiative to learn more about addiction and how they may be able to make a difference within our community and ignite change."

At the center of Eleanor鈥檚 artistic mission is using music as a means for empowering and amplifying marginalized voices and generating dialogue amongst diverse audiences. She is currently a US State Department Arts Envoy. While leading programs in Costa Rica, Argentina and Honduras, Eleanor has developed songwriting and professional development workshops for students of all ages in which she and local collaborators teach students to write and record original songs rooted in personal and community narratives.

鈥淯tilizing her ability to connect with students, we鈥檒l continue our partnerships with local schools,鈥 Mitchell continues. 鈥淓leanor will provide songwriting workshops to English classes at both Strasburg Middle School and Claymont High School. With her ability to engage a multilingual population, she鈥檒l also spend a day at Dover High School leading workshops with their English as a Second Language (ESL) classes. I鈥檓 really excited for the students to have this unique opportunity.鈥

Support for the educational workshops and outreach was received from the Dover Exchange Club and from individual contributions to the Performing Arts Center鈥檚 Education Fund.
