Living with Grief Program on Friday, April 24

Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University at Stark will join more than 2,000 organizations across the United States and Canada as a host of the 22nd annual Living with Grief program. Sponsored by the Hospice Foundation of America, the viewing of The Longest Loss: Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia will take place on Friday, April 24 from 1–4 p.m. in the Main Hall Auditorium, 6000 Frank Avenue NW in Jackson Township. The program is free of charge and open to the public. No tickets are required. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

The Longest Loss: Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, will be moderated by Frank Sesno, director of the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University. The program will feature a panel of experts who will identify how medical and social service professionals can best help patients, families and themselves cope with loss and grief associated with the progressive illnesses of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. When the diagnosis is Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia, grief doesn’t wait for death. Grieving can begin in the doctor’s office when patients and families receive confirmation of illness. Over the span of what may be a decade, multiple losses associated with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia becomes a pervasive part of everyday life for millions of patients, their families and friends. After the death, survivors’ grief may be complicated by the nature of a lengthy disease process that has changed their relationship with the deceased. The program will use a combination of candid, compelling interviews and live, in-studio discussions.

Three (3) continuing education credits will be granted by the Hospice Foundation of America for a wide range of professions at an online processing fee of $15 per certificate, with a $5 charge for each additional certificate requested. The continuing education credits are available until April 21, 2016, to be paid with MasterCard, VISA or American Express. A professional board license number is required for online credits.

To register for this program, arrange for continuing education credits or to receive more information, contact Sally Lavery, CRAHEC coordinator, at 330-244-3293 or slavery_gst@kent.edu.
