National Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 5-Oct. 15)

National Hispanic Heritage Month recognizes and celebrates the heritage, culture and contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans. Hispanic Heritage Month begins on Sept. 15 to commemorate Independence Day for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Hispanic Heritage month began in 1968 as National Hispanic Heritage week. In 1988, it was expanded to a monthlong celebration.
