When Elena returned home after studying abroad in Greece, she described the experience as “seeing the pages of history books come to life.”
Elena, a marketing major and entrepreneurship minor, participated in a sustainability focused education abroad trip to Greece in 2019. She traveled to Athens, Crete and Santorini to study sales and sustainability with other ɫҹ students who became some of her best friends. Highlights included visiting Coca-Cola’s headquarters, touring an organic olive oil manufacturer and sustainable winery and hiking to a volcano.
“From visiting historical landmarks such as the Parthenon in Athens to trying new cuisine and learning Greek dances with friends at dinner and sailing on the Aegean Sea, this trip was something I will remember for the rest of my life. I feel so grateful to have not only learned about a new culture, but to have been truly immersed in it,” Elena said.
Elena received a study abroad scholarship from the College of Business Administration. “I don't think I would have even considered studying abroad if this scholarship was not available,” Elena said. “This scholarship ended up covering almost my entire round-trip flight to Greece, which was absolutely amazing. The thought of buying a plane ticket to Europe was extremely overwhelming for me, but receiving this scholarship allowed me to cover that cost and make this trip a reality.”
