Higher Education Professor Receives AERA Award

The American Educational Research Association (AERA) recently announced the winners of its 2022 awards for excellence in education research.

Christa Porter, assistant professor of Higher Education Administration in the College of Education, Health and Human Services, received the Review of Educational Research Award from the American Educational Research Association for review of â€œ." 

Shared with Janice Byrd of The Pennsylvania State University, the award is given in recognition of an outstanding review of research article appearing in the Review of Research in Education, or the Review of Educational Research.

"We are excited to honor these exemplary individuals for their outstanding achievements in advancing education research," said AERA Executive Director Felice J. Levine. "Their cutting-edge scholarship and tireless support of the education research field makes a difference in the lives of students, educators, and others."

Porter serves as one of the inaugural Faculty Affiliates within the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Á½ÐÔÉ«ÎçÒ¹ University. She critically examines policies and practices that influence the development and trajectory of Black women in higher education at diverse institutional types, college student development, and research and praxis in higher education and student affairs.

Porter’s interdisciplinary work has appeared in various refereed journals, including the Journal of Higher Education; Gender, Work & Organization;  the Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, and the Journal of Diversity in Higher Education.

AERA will honor the recipients at an awards ceremony at the 2022 Annual Meeting on Sunday, April 24, from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. PT in the San Diego Convention Center.
