The Ohio State Treasurer’s Office is hosting a series of free, half-day, personal finance conferences titled Smart Money Choices to equip Ohioans with the knowledge they need to make more informed personal finance decisions.
ɫҹ University faculty, staff and students are invited to attend the half-day conference that will take place on Friday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Akron West on 4073 Medina Rd. in Akron.
Can’t make the conference in Akron? A second conference will take place on Aug. 10 at the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center at 7300 N. Palmyra Rd in Canfield.
Attendees will learn from financial experts teaching a variety of topics that include budgeting, consumer scams, credit and debt management, estate planning, investment fundamentals, retirement planning, social security, and new this year, student funding and debt management, which provides parents and young people with information about college readiness, funding choices and financial management.
"The Smart Money Choices conference series is an excellent opportunity for faculty, staff, incoming and current students, and new graduates to learn more about personal finance,” says Josh Mandel, state treasurer of Ohio. “There is something for everyone, with courses on budgeting, investments, student funding, debt management, retirement, estate planning and more. The Credit and Debt Management course is a good course for students as they may not realize that credit history may be a factor in hiring decisions.”
