Make Your Mark on the World With TEDxKentState

If you have ever wanted to give a TED Talk, the time is now! ɫҹ University’s Undergraduate Student Government is looking for speakers for the second TEDxKentState. close on Friday, Oct. 20.

This year’s theme centers on the Pale Blue Dot. It has been said that some of the best things come in the smallest packages; and in the grand ethos of the universe, Earth is simply a Pale Blue Dot. But that little spec in the Milky Way Galaxy has history, passion, lessons and most important — potential for the future.

With the Pale Blue Dot in mind, the goal of TEDxKentState is to spread new ideas to the entire ɫҹ community, with topics ranging from properly managing political discourse to addressing heroin addiction, refugees, new scientific research, entrepreneurship, racial profiling, mental health and sexual assault to name a few.

Last year, TEDxKentState was voted the most impactful event on campus, with more than 600 people in attendance. It featured 18 talks from faculty and staff, and it showcased live dancers, artists, entrepreneurs, research showcases and STEM labs. This year, TEDxKentState is also inviting alumni and people from the Kent area to apply to speak.

TED is a nonprofit organization that focuses on sharing ideas in the fields of technology, entertainment, design and many more. TEDx events are independently organized events that bring together people in smaller communities and propel the TED message, “ideas worth spreading.”

With TEDxKentState, Undergraduate Student Government hopes to encourage the sharing of ideas and stimulate conversation within the ɫҹ and city of Kent communities.

TEDxKentState will take place in late January or early February — the specific date is still to be determined.
