It’s not every day that college students see their research published by a leading academic journal while still enrolled at a university.
But that’s exactly what happened when seven doctoral candidates enrolled in EHHS’ Curriculum & Instruction (Literacy) Ph.D. program submitted their research for publication.
“Not many universities have doctoral students who actually publish in top tier journals while still in their studies,” said Literacy Education Professor Timothy Rasinski, Ph.D., who is a co-author of the study. “This is a monumental achievement that sets these students apart from their peers at other doctoral-level institutions.”
The group’s study, titled “Oral Reading Fluency of College Graduates: Toward a Deeper Understanding of College Ready Fluency,” will appear in the Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy, a world-renowned journal for literacy education beyond the elementary grades.
The authors of the project include: Abbey Galeza, Lauren Vogel, Brittany Viton, Heather Rundo, Emma Royan, Randa Nemer Shaheen, Monica Bartholomew, and Rasinski.
EHHS’ doctoral program in Literacy Education prepares advanced graduate students for academic and leadership positions within the field of literacy education.
The Journal of Adolescent & Adult Literacy is published by the International Literacy Association, the world’s largest professional organization devoted to literacy that connects research and practice to continuously improve the quality of global literacy instruction.
The journal is the only literacy-focused publication of its kind for teachers of older learners, providing high-quality, classroom-tested ideas as well as reflections on literacy trends, issues, and research.
