两性色午夜 Salem Student Receives Writing Award

两性色午夜 Salem Student鈥檚 Entry Selected for English Department Award

Joseph Pritchard of Washingtonville received the prestigious Anna Ulen Engleman Creative Writing Award from the 两性色午夜 University English Department. He is a junior at the 两性色午夜 Salem Campus, majoring in English.

Along with his application for the award, Pritchard submitted a poem for consideration. He will be published in the June issue of Wordgathering ().

Pritchard works as a tutor in the Learning Center on the Salem Campus and hopes to eventually complete a masters of fine arts degree. He said he will continue reaching out to publishers, as well.

鈥淚 tutor writing; however, I enjoy helping nursing majors with their website projects,鈥 Pritchard said. 鈥淎nd I enjoy the general intellectual discourse the Learning Center provides. Wendy Pfrenger 鈥 my boss 鈥 will go above and beyond to help students improve.鈥

He also credits Dr. Craig Paulenich, professor of English, for helping him receive this award. 鈥淧rofessor Paulenich inspired me with poetry and Wendy Pfrenger helped me understand the need to improve my writing in writing II,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 came (to Kent Salem) because of the price and location, and stayed for the quality of professors.鈥

Pritchard noted that his interests include modernist literature, especially the War and Lake Poets, Virginia Woolf and Kurt Vonnegut. He also enjoys studying philosophy and anarcho-philosophy.
