Students Challenged, Excel in Honors Program at Salem

两性色午夜 University鈥檚 Honors Program provides students on all campuses opportunities to participate in learning experiences that are challenging and that provide enriching experiences in the students鈥 areas of interest. On the Salem Campus this year, the Honors students are planning a busy year of community and campus service projects, as well as academic pursuits.

An Honors student at 两性色午夜 University at SalemThe students formed the Honors Club to help organize planning and the implementation of their many projects. Officers include Brianna Parfaite as president; Leanne Strawn as vice president; Conni Cross as secretary; and Lindsey Rice as treasurer.

This semester, the students are hosting a Halloween party for children at the Fleming House; volunteering at the Banquet of Lisbon; providing English tutoring at the Centro San Pablo at St. Paul鈥檚 Church; organizing a Christmas concert at a local nursing home; sponsoring Red Nose Day; and participating in a clean-up project in Columbiana County.

Each semester, Honors Club members travel to Cleveland to attend a Shakespeare play at the Hanna Theatre. In October, the students will see A Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream. Any student interested in joining the group for this outing (special student ticket price of $15 each), should contact Dr. Andrew Pfrenger, English faculty member and club advisor, at apfrenge@kent.edu.

First and second semester students with minimum 3.3 GPAs and ACT scores of 25 are encouraged to contact Pfrenger to become involved with the Honors program.

鈥淭his is an active group and they鈥檙e excited to raise awareness of all they do,鈥 he said.
