Rad Tech students on the Salem Campus celebrated National Radiologic Technology Week with several activities and a luncheon. The week is traditionally observed in hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country to recognize the role of radiologic technology and radiation therapy professionals in partner care and healthcare safety and to commemorate the discovery of x-rays on Nov. 8, 1895, by Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen.
One such activity was the quiz bowl competition, an annual event on the Salem Campus that helps showcase the knowledge base of the students as well as prepare them for the state competition in April during the Ohio Society of Radiologic Technology Educational Seminar in Columbus. There, teams from 15 other rad tech schools in Ohio will compete in the state quiz bowl.
The winning quiz bowl team this past week were students from the Salem Regional Medical Center clinical site that included Jocelynn Woods, Alivia Davidson-Chuck, Erica Gudat, Asa DeSanzo, Sam Elrod and Ella Wright.
The runners-up team was from the Mercy Health Youngstown clinical site and included Ben Manchester, Mary Novak, Renee Leonard, Lexi Kalicatzaros and Maddee McDowell.
All rad tech students, clinical preceptors and Salem faculty, administration and staff gathered on the last day of the week for poster presentations by first year students and reviews of the professional ethics for radiologic technology by second year students.
