Hats Off to Terri Murphy

Plenty of students who have picked up a warm, cozy hat while in Bowman Hall have Terri Murphy to thank. Throughout this academic year Terri has knitted and shared over 35 caps with students who needed one—especially during this cold winter.

“It sure is nice to have a hat on your head on a cold, snowy day,” says Murphy while chatting in 113 Bowman Hall, where she is the administrative assistant for the School of Multidisciplinary Social Sciences and Humanities. Murphy has worked at ɫҹ University for nearly 21 years and is also an alumna. She began as an accounting major, but after working at Kent Social Services she changed her major to Human Development/Family Studies.

“I wanted to have greater impact on individuals.” Murphy continues, “the students are my favorite part of working here: when I was in the Department of Political Science, I really liked helping graduate students as they earned their graduate degrees, and I really enjoyed seeing the undergraduates as they matured and grew in the department, and their happy faces.”

She also enjoys the diversity of people, ideas, and experiences of the people she meets and works with.

Murphy enjoys both knitting and crocheting as a method of stress relief, which is good for the heart. She especially likes making pom poms for the hats and says that the blue and gold hats go quickly.

The next time you are in Bowman Hall, stop by office 113 and share a “hats off” and big thank you to Terri Murphy for her efforts in supporting our students.
