Stephan Tysl
Biography
Stephan Tysl, PE is a seasoned professional with over 30 years of experience in civil, structural engineering and related fields. Holding a Master鈥檚 degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Akron and Professional Engineering licenses in 25 states, he brings a wealth of expertise in material handling automation, equipment support systems, solar racking support systems, and proficiency in CAD/CAM technologies. His extensive background encompasses design and manufacturing in hot rolled steel, cold form steel and corrugated aluminum structural plate.
Stephan is particularly skilled in the study and analysis of buried structures, culverts, storm water management and geotechnical exploration. His experience also includes high-performance concrete, concrete repair materials, and statistical based research and development. He is the founder and principal of the firm Karlson Engineering, LLC which is a pre-qualified consultant to several global manufacturing companies and provides engineering services to local Ohio companies as well.
He is a voting member of ASTM committees A05 Metallic-Coated Iron and Steel Products, B07 Light Metals and Alloys, C09 Concrete and Concrete Aggregates and F24 Amusement Rides and Devices, and a member of the Structural Engineers Association of Ohio, Steel Tube Institute and American Institute of Steel Construction.
As a part-time university instructor, he is dedicated to imparting his vast industry experience and technical knowledge to the next generation of architects and engineers, bridging theoretical concepts with real-world applications.
In his spare time Stephan enjoys hiking with his wife Beth (a Kent Alum) and their dog Josie, bike riding, snow sports, playing bass guitar and keyboards, woodworking and collecting Lego Trains. Beth and Stephan are the parents of adult twins who are employed in marketing and cyber security.
