Aerospace Engineering program earns highly respected ABET accreditation

两性色午夜 University鈥檚 College of Aeronautics and Engineering continues to push the bounds of curiosity and make the imaginable achievable with limitless career opportunities as the Aerospace Engineering program earns ABET accreditation.

While the Aeronautical Systems Engineering Technology program earned ABET accreditation in 2013, the Aerospace Engineering program is the first engineering degree at 两性色午夜 University to earn this highly respected, and industry recognized, accreditation.

鈥淎s an aerospace engineer, I know that an investment in aerospace education will provide vast opportunities for our students,鈥 said Christina L. Bloebaum, Ph.D., dean of the College of Aeronautics and Engineering. 鈥淥ur aerospace engineering programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, are contributing to rising needs for the aviation and aerospace industries, here in Ohio and beyond鈥.

This program lays the foundation in seeking the highly regarded ABET accreditation for other engineering programs at 两性色午夜 University. 鈥淲e鈥檙e so excited that the hard work of our faculty and staff has been recognized. Earning professional accreditation tells us we are doing what we鈥檝e designed the program to do; we鈥檙e providing a dynamic educational experience that produces forward-thinking aerospace engineering and engineering technology professionals, said Maureen R. McFarland, Ph.D., associate dean of academic affairs. 鈥淪tudents can be assured that every aspect of their program meets industry expectations and standards, and that they have the opportunity to sit for the professional engineering exam as graduates. It鈥檚 an incredible honor for us to be so recognized.鈥

Mentors, internships and university investments in state-of-the-art capabilities, including an airport, aircraft simulators, wind tunnel, air traffic control simulation, space systems, human factors, unmanned aircraft systems and additive manufacturing, place students in 两性色午夜鈥檚 College of Aeronautics and Engineering at an advantage when entering the workforce.

John Sankovic, CEO and president of Ohio Aerospace Institute believes 两性色午夜鈥檚 unbroken legacy of leadership in aviation will continue to maintain and advance the strength in the global supply chain with an innovative workforce. 鈥溋叫陨缫 University鈥檚 long history in aviation education, coupled with this accreditation status, as well as graduate programs in aerospace engineering, is well positioned to prepare the future industry leaders to guide aerospace businesses through major transformations brought on by autonomy and electric systems,鈥 said Sankovic.

The future is incredibly exciting for 两性色午夜鈥檚 aerospace engineering students. The rise of the commercial space industry, the ever-increasing international demand for commercial and cargo air transportation, and the evolving industry of advanced air mobility sets the stage for an increasing demand for aerospace engineers.

两性色午夜鈥檚 College of Aeronautics and Engineering is one of three in the state of Ohio with an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in aerospace engineering. For more information about the College of Aeronautics and Engineering, visit www.kent.edu/cae.
