Student Valerie Smith Named to The Sage Project Class of 2019

Sophomore honored for innovation, creativity, risk-taking and leadership

两性色午夜 University at Ashtabula sophomore and Ashtabula native Valerie Smith is one of nine students throughout the 两性色午夜 system named to The Sage Project Class of 2019.  She was honored at a luncheon and ceremony on the Kent campus Thursday, March 21, 2019.

 

The Sage Project is presented by the Women鈥檚 Center at 两性色午夜 and recognizes women-identifying students who have demonstrated innovation, creativity, risk-taking and leadership skills in their academic and personal lives.

 

A 1999 graduate of Edgewood High School, Smith is currently majoring in English with a minor in prelaw and paralegal studies. The full-time student 鈥 and mother of four - also serves as president of Undergraduate Student Government and vice president of the Arts & Culture Club, works as an English tutor in the Writing Center and is also a member of the Sociology Club and College Democrats.  She plans to attend law school following graduation with a special interest in representing women who have been victims of domestic violence and marginalized individuals in society.   

 

鈥淚鈥檓 driven to want to help women, especially vulnerable women who have been in abusive relationships that really have nowhere to turn,鈥 she said.
