This event takes you on a journey through the remarkable life of Elizabeth Keckley, who purchased her own freedom from slavery and became a successful entrepreneur and personal dressmaker to First Lady Mary Todd Lincoln. A cape made by Keckley for Lincoln will be displayed at the event as we uncover how fashion can illuminate historical narratives, from the lives of first ladies to often overlooked histories.
